60+ years defining Pacific Northwest architecture
Gordon Walker has been practicing architecture in Seattle since 1962, after graduating from the University of Idaho. He co-founded Olson Walker Architects (now the internationally acclaimed Olson Kundig), worked as a principal at NBBJ, and founded Walker Architects in 1992 before joining Mithun as a consulting principal.
Walker's early career included working with preservation architect Ralph Anderson, contributing to the rehabilitation of several key buildings in Pioneer Square, including the Maynard Building. His work has been "an influential part of the development and evolution of Pacific Northwest regional architecture and modernism."
Known as the "Pied Piper of Northwest Architecture," Walker lives on Orcas Island and has created this personal residence as a testament to his philosophy of architecture in harmony with nature. A 2019 biography "Gordon Walker: A Poetic Architecture" by Grant Hildebrand chronicles his exceptional 50-year career.
